Rajapalayam LPA GHG Emissions Inventory (FY 2021-22)
Rajapalayam is a town in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, India. It serves as the taluk headquarters for Rajapalayam Taluk. The area, known as Rajapalayam LPA (Local Planning Area), encompasses the town, 15 nearby revenue villages, and 2 reserved forests. According to the 2011 Census, the total population of this region is around 2.16 lakh. In 2023, a master plan was created for Rajapalayam LPA, with a planning horizon extending until 2041. The master plan's objectives include promoting sustainable urban development, responsible land usage, and efficient resource management. This plan is designed to guide the town towards environmentally friendly practices and comprehensive growth, aiming to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2041.
To support this goal, an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions has been developed for Rajapalayam. This inventory details the sources and quantities of these emissions. While the current inventory offers a general overview of the town's emissions, producing subsequent reports on a yearly or bi-yearly basis will enhance data accuracy and provide insights into the progress of efforts made by the LPA to reduce their environmental impact.
